Water Loop
The British Council invited us to carry out research into water and sanitation in India with the aim of developing a programme for Hyderabad Design Week 2019. In response we developed Water Loop, a concept for a public loo with circular water systems. We commissioned architect Anupama Kundoo to design the building and invited Dr Naho Mirumachi at King’s Water Hub to provide expertise on the water context.
Water Loop is intended as an educational model that connects humans and the environment, poo and the food chain, technology and community. It aims to inspire conversations around critical issues of sustainable sanitation, circularity and nature-based systems, the value of rain and how traditional practices are once again informing contemporary approaches.
We worked with the British Council to create a Water Loop education programme for design students in India in 2021, aiming to inspire future generations of designers to work with circular systems.
Water Loop was part of ‘Taking Time’, Anupama Kundoo’s exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark, 8 October 2020 – 31 January 2021 and was presented at Hyderabad Design Week and Bengaluru by Design in 2019.
